A stunning Shasaven Maffrash in near-miraculous condition, of Persian origin.
Maffrash are the largest carrying bags once used by the nomadic peoples of Persia and the Caucasus.
This one has been unstitched so it can be placed on the floor or hung on the wall.
The composition of this type of piece is consistent.
It features a central section woven with wool over wool, consisting of colorful horizontal bands.
At each end, there is a panel crafted using the sumak technique, which resembles embroidery.
These objects are refined, with perfectly executed patterns. The surface showcases the full dexterity of the most experienced weavers.
The patterns on each panel belong to and are characteristic of the larger Shasaven nomadic tradition.
