Period: mid- to late 19th century.
Before 1923, Ezine was called Avunya.
Rugs knotted before that date are still referred to by the old name, and the characteristics of these rugs are specific to that location.
Avunya rugs are therefore indeed the predecessors of Ezine rugs, and this type shares characteristics similar to Çanakkale rugs.
The highly geometric border in red, blue, yellow, and white is characteristic of these rugs.
Ezine is a city and district in the province of Çanakkale in the Marmara region of Turkey.
This city is about 5 hours and 30 minutes from Istanbul via Bursa.
These antique pieces, originating from Turkey, were woven in austere, often mountainous, and above all rugged regions.
The niche shape surrounded by hooks and the stylized flowers are symbols of happiness and peace, while the branches inside the niche symbolize trees of life.
These prayer rugs are generally in good condition, as they have always been reverently preserved by families or by owners who are passionate about this genre.
