Kars Kilim - Anatolia. Circa 1900. 320 X 130 Cm
A stunning kilim from Kars in northeastern Anatolia.
This piece is truly rare, featuring a palette of reddish-ochre and brick tones subtly accented with touches of deep, saturated indigo blue.
What is truly remarkable is the quality of the hand-spun wool—ultra-soft, almost silky.
The wool-on-wool weave is sensational; the piece is supple and light, with an overall delicate feel.
The natural and plant-based dyes are both rare in this composition and perfectly harmonious. The ecru motifs provide a striking contrast.
Circa 1900–1920
In very good condition.
Please note: there is some slight bleeding of red dye into the white motifs. It is rather minor.
This issue can easily be addressed by our restorer at no additional cost.
