Description

Portable reliquary with handle (kiss of peace type) in chased silver (not hallmarked), palmette decoration on the rim with riveted bottom and sealed with red wax (seal intact), mounted on tinned silver plate, held by folded tabs with glass protection on a red background, legible handwritten label: Apolloniae VM (Apolloniae Virginis et Martyris)ex ossibus (bone fragment) of Saint Apollonia, virgin and martyr of the 3rd century, venerated in particular against toothaches

Faithful translation (main part):
We attest that, for the greater glory of Almighty God and the veneration of His saints, we have recognized as authentic and extracted from the holy places this sacred relic from the bones of Saint Apollonia, virgin and martyr, and that we have reverently placed it in the enclosed silver monstrance, closed with red silk and a seal of Hyspanic red wax bearing our seal of identity; we grant the faculty to preserve it, expose it to public veneration in churches, chapels or oratories, or to offer it to other faithful as part of a sacred gift.

Nicolaus Franceschini Not.*Cardinal Giulio Maria della Somaglia was a high Roman dignitary and cardinal-vicar, a highly sought-after signature for 19th-century relic certificates.

Condition:

Very good condition for its age, preserved oxidized silver patina, intact seal, original mounting. Slight signs of wear and natural oxidation consistent with liturgical use and antiquity.

In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as an object of sacred art. The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
