Blood Jasper Heraldic Seal, 19th Century
Blood jasper heraldic seal, 19th century
Green hardstone seal, probably blood jasper (heliotrope), finely cut and polished, preserved in its original case.
Description
The circular die is engraved with a heraldic coat of arms composed of a parted shield:
- to the dexter, a field charged with multiple chevrons,
- to sinister, animal presence (probably stylized lion) and cross
The whole is stamped with a helmet in profile with developed lambrequins, surmounted by a double crest: stylized plant motif and arm or hand holding a flower.
Quality workmanship, typical of 19th-century personal or bourgeois seals, probably from Northern Europe (Belgium or France).
Very fine cabinet object, both decorative and emblematic of the heraldic tradition.
