Relic Of Saint Eleutherius, 19th Century - Belgium
Relic of Saint Eleutherius - 19th Century - Belgium.
Authentic oval reliquary in gilt brass, mounted as a pendant, containing an authentic relic of Saint Eleutherius (Sti Eleutheri Ep. Corn.).
Description:
The front features a carefully crafted decoration on a light textile background, adorned with metal wires arranged in a radial pattern. In the center, the relic is set within a circular gilt metal mount with openwork decoration, typical of the 18th century.
Two contemporary handwritten labels precisely identify the relic:
• In the upper part: “Et Oss.” (abbreviation of Ex Ossibus = bone fragment)
• In the lower part: “Sti Eleutheri Ep. Corn.” → Saint Eleutherius, bishop and martyr of Corinth.
Reverse: The back is sealed with old reddish-brown wax, applied to a pinkish textile background, with red silk thread crosshatch patterns.
The seal is old, homogeneous, and undisturbed, attesting to the integrity of the reliquary.
The back capsule is present (original lid preserved).
Condition:
Very good for its age. Seal intact. Normal wear consistent with age.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred work of art.
The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
