Violin-Shaped Reliquary with Paper Filigree, Agnus Dei, and Relics of Saint Constantia (Textile) and Saint Timothy Martyr – Late 18th Century.
Description:
Violin-shaped reliquary in carved wood, painted green and gilt, resting on a rectangular base. Southern European work, late 18th – early 19th century.
The interior, under glass, features a rich paper filigree composition of gilt and silvered metallic threads, adorned with foliage, radiating motifs, and figures of adoring angels.
The central medallion contains an Agnus Dei in blessed wax, surrounded by polychrome floral decoration.
The upper section contains a textile relic attributed to Saint Constantia (S. Constantiae), identified by its ancient scroll.
The lower section presents a textile relic of Saint Timothy Martyr (S. Thimothei M.).
A homogeneous ensemble, typical of devotional objects from the late 18th century.
Dimensions: 33 x 17 cm.
Condition:
Good overall condition with wear and losses to the polychromy.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred work of art.
