Solid silver travel ciborium – Maison Favier – 19th century.
Solid silver travel ciborium resting on a circular foot decorated with repoussé and chased stylized water leaves.
Description:
Baluster-shaped stem adorned with the same ornamental motifs, featuring raised vegetal decoration.
The simple hemispherical cup has a molded rim and is mercury-gilded (vermeil) on the interior, in accordance with liturgical practice for preserving consecrated hosts.
Domed lid with a radiating decoration of large water leaves, surmounted by a trefoil cross.
Hallmarks:
Minerva hallmark (1st standard, 950/1000) visible on the cup.
Identified silversmith's mark: Maison FAVIER, active in the 19th century.
Other control hallmarks visible on the rim (photos attached).
A coherent set, French manufacture, second half of the 19th century.
Dimensions: Height: 17 cm - Weight: 126 grams.
Typical size of a travel ciborium intended for the communion of the sick.
Good overall condition.
- Signs of wear and minor scratches consistent with age. - Interior gilding is well preserved.
