Description:
Icon painted in tempera on a single-piece wooden panel, depicting Saint George on horseback, brandishing a red banner and confronting the dragon. The princess appears on the ground, along with a small hanging crucifix, an unusual iconographic detail in popular versions of the theme.
The painting is of vernacular style, probably from a rural or monastic workshop, characterized by a naive but expressive drawing, a limited palette, and direct execution on the wood without complex priming.
Dimensions: 33 × 28 cm.
Condition:
Panel previously damaged by fire: painted face partially spared, reverse heavily charred and cracked.
Losses, lifting, and wear to the paint layer, but overall legibility preserved.
Presence of a later layer of varnish or saturation (probably 20th century), giving a non-original glossy appearance.
No modern repainting identifiable to the naked eye. Unrestored icon.
