Reliquary of the True Cross - Ex Ligno Crucis DNJC - late 17th/early 19th century - Italy
Metal oval reliquary (probably brass or silver-plated bronze), with molded border, enclosing a relic of the Holy Cross arranged in the shape of a cross.
Description
The relic is presented on a radiant background of gilded metal leaf, typical of 18th-19th century devotional productions, reinforcing the symbolism of divine light. It is framed by paperolles and an antique textile decoration.
Presence of a handwritten titulus at the bottom, legible as: "Ex Ligno S. Crucis" (relic of the True Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ).
The reverse is closed and sealed with thread and armorial red wax seal, guaranteeing the integrity and ecclesiastical authenticity of the reliquary. Seal well present, unbroken.
Original suspension ring.
Condition:
Good overall condition; normal oxidation and wear, slight internal soiling, old glass intact.
