Neo-Gothic Gilt Metal Monstrance – Maison Poussielgue-Rusand – Paris.

An important neo-Gothic style gilt metal monstrance, resting on a polylobed base with three foliate feet.

Description:

The base is finely engraved with scrolls and plant motifs in a distinctly medieval style.

The stem, punctuated by a baluster-shaped knop with gadrooned decoration, supports a radiant glory composed of alternating straight and flamboyant rays.

The lunette is absent. The circular case is framed by an openwork decoration of trilobed and quatrefoil arcades of Gothic inspiration.

The whole is surmounted by a fleur-de-lis cross with chased decoration.

A work of fine quality attributable to the Maison Poussielgue-Rusand, an important Parisian firm specializing in religious metalwork in the 19th century, active particularly during the Second Empire and the Third Republic.

The monstrance is preserved in its original case.

Height: 53 cm.

Condition:

wear to the gilding with localized verdigris, consistent with age and liturgical use. The lunette is missing.

A decorative and liturgical piece characteristic of the 19th-century Gothic Revival.
