Doulton Burslem Vase, Hand-painted,rare 1891

Artist: Doulton Burslem
This exceptionally rare Doulton Burslem vase, dating to 1891, showcases exquisite craftsmanship in fine porcelain. The vase features an elegant globular body, a scalloped pedestal base, and a flared ruffled rim, creating a striking silhouette.
The hand-painted floral motif highlights delicate chrysanthemums, meticulously rendered with applied gilded enamel. This relief decoration, where additional elements such as enamel dots are raised from a flat surface, creates a stunning three-dimensional effect. The artist's remarkable skill is evident in the precision and care taken to depict each petal, leaf, and stem.
The combination of colors and gilded accents is highly uncharacteristic for Doulton, making this a rare and unique piece. This vase is a true testament to Doulton Burslem's artistry, blending natural beauty with refined detailing into a collector's masterpiece.
The factory marks on the base date this piece to 1891. The crown symbol, introduced in 1886, signifies Doulton's appointment as potters to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.
Produced by the Doulton Burslem factory in Stoke-on-Trent, England, which began operation in 1877, this vase reflects the factory’s reputation for creating high-quality ceramics and fine art pottery during the late 19th century. Known for combining artistic excellence with technical innovation, the Burslem factory became synonymous with beautifully decorated pieces that appealed to collectors and art enthusiasts alike.
