Japanese Kutani Porcelain Buddhist Triad Of Kannon, Meiji Period, C. 1880–1900
A late Meiji period Japanese Kutani porcelain triad representing Kannon with two standing attendant bodhisattvas, conceived as a complete sculptural and devotional ensemble.
The seated central figure holds a sutra scroll, while the attendants are differentiated by subtle variations in ornament and colour, highlighting the hand-crafted nature of the group. The refined Kutani palette, generous gilding, and finely worked nanako-ji texture of the cloaks give the ensemble strong sculptural presence.
Complete Kutani Buddhist triads of this quality are rare and highly desirable.
