This refined pair of Royal Dux porcelain figures represents a fisherman and a fisherwoman, produced in Bohemia around 1918. The figures are of generous size and display confident modelling, forming a harmonious and visually engaging pair.
Softly graded polychrome enamels give the figures a calm, sculptural appearance. Details are enhanced with dead-matte gilding, applied with restraint to baskets and accessories. A subtle dusting of gold adds depth and texture to the garments, a finish associated with Royal Dux models of higher quality and more demanding production.
The bases bear impressed model numbers 1819 and 1820, confirming the figures were conceived as a pair. The female figure retains a well-preserved pink triangular DPM factory mark, while the male shows expected wear to the same mark. An impressed “F” within a circle appears on both bases, likely indicating the initials of the sculptor or modeler.
