"Antique Pair Of Art Nouveau Porcelain Vases, Decorated By Ernst Wahliss, C. 1895"
A refined pair of Art Nouveau porcelain vases, dating
to circa 1895. Produced using high-quality porcelain blanks from Rudolstadt
(Thuringia, Germany) and decorated in Vienna by the workshop of Ernst Wahliss —
a renowned Austrian designer of the Belle Époque. This collaboration was part
of a documented export practice, combining German technical excellence with
Viennese decorative sophistication.
Each vase is finished in deep cobalt blue and richly enhanced with gold
scrollwork and applied details. The shape, surface treatment, and artistic
flair are fully in line with Wahliss' luxury production aimed at international
clientele.
Underside marked with the blue underglaze "Drei Gewehre"
(Three Rifles) of Rudolstadt, together with the phrase “Manufactured in
Austria” - a designation used for export, as Austrian porcelain held high
prestige at the time.
The presence of such mark indicates that the vases
were produced exactly for the American market, as such export markings were
commonly used to comply with U.S. import regulations.
