Attributed To Samson Paris Blue Ground Footed Porcelain Bowl, Late 19th Century
A striking late nineteenth-century porcelain footed bowl attributed to Edme Samson of Paris. The piece is decorated in the Chelsea-Derby style with a rich cobalt-blue ground, hand-painted floral reserves and extensive gilded ornament.
The elegant proportions are enhanced by a gilt brickwork border around the lower body and a finely decorated interior centred by a floral bouquet. The combination of deep cobalt and gold creates strong visual impact from every angle.
Samson's finest productions drew inspiration from celebrated eighteenth-century porcelains while introducing the refinement and craftsmanship of nineteenth-century Parisian decorative arts. This bowl is an excellent example of that tradition.
