Object description :

"Chamberlain Worcester Armorial Plate “dragon In Compartments”, C.1800"

A well-preserved Worcester porcelain dessert plate in the “Dragon in Compartments” pattern, c.1800. The layout derives from Kangxi famille-verte models introduced at Worcester c.1765–1768 and continued by Chamberlain: dragon and kylin in opposing panels, with vase and treasure reserves, neatly enamelled and gilt. The centre carries an armorial roundel from a commissioned service, the arms of the Bewicke (Bewick) family of Newcastle upon Tyne, Close House, Northumberland.                                                                                                                               Marked to reverse with hand-written Chamberlain Worcester No. 75.                                         Commissioned armorial wares were significantly more expensive than standard production, which makes the value of this plate special.                                                                                             A sound late-Georgian example with good color and display. Dimensions Diameter 21.2 cm Height 2.0 cm Weight 344 g Condition Wear to gilding in places; even glaze crazing as expected for age; no structural cracks observed. Please review photographs. Please study the accompanying photographs carefully as they form an integral part of this description. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance.
