"Kister Porzellan-manufaktur, Pair Of Porcelain Figural Flower Carts, C.1887."
Pair of figural carts by Kister Porzellan-Manufaktur,
Scheibe-Alsbach, circa 1887. Two young figures in 18th-century attire draw
shell-shaped carts on large wheels; fronts with a lion mask and rocaille leaf
ornament; sides with rocaille scrolls; interiors white. Sponged “earth” bases
are typical of late-19th-century Thuringia. Painted in a Dresden-style pastel
palette with raised “pearl” gilding characteristic of Kister.
Underglaze blue “KPM”
above crossed strokes; impressed 1445-9; vent hole. Under Professor Reinhard
Möller (from 1877), Kister expanded modelling quality; in the 1890s the factory
issued pairs and centrepieces (female dancers, dancing couples, historical
figures) and lace figures after early Meissen prototypes. Related groups
include carts, sledges and children with barrows in the same palette and raised
gilding. Highly
collectible pair with clear Kister attribution, appealing composition and
strong original surface.
Condition:
Female: minor loss to one wheel hub; otherwise
excellent, colours and gilding preserved.
Male: excellent, full preservation.
Dimensions and weight:
Female 18.5 × 19.5 × 12 cm; 991 g.
