A refined pair of early twentieth-century English posy vases in patent ironstone, decorated in the Oriental palette with exotic bird and floral ornament on a vivid yellow ground, enhanced by layered enamels and extensive gilding typical of Mason’s Edwardian decorative production.
The decoration follows the registered factory design Mason’s Oriental palette / exotic bird design on yellow ground, Registered Design No. 652974, seen on a range of forms from exhibition vases and chargers to smaller interior pieces. The present examples represent the compact globular posy-vase form, produced in more limited numbers.
