Large Qajar Vase With Underglaze Painted Decoration, Persia, 19th Century
Large Qajar vase with underglaze painted decoration, Persia/Iran, Qajar dynasty, 19th century.
Large decorative Qajar ceramic vase, with a slender pear-shaped form resting on a small foot, featuring a wide neck and flared rim. Four flat handles connect the shoulder to the neck, giving the piece a balanced and architecturally structured silhouette.
The body is richly painted under a transparent glaze in cobalt blue, manganese, green, and touches of yellow. The main field is covered with leafy scrollwork, rosettes, and composite flowers, framed by floral bands at the shoulder and base. Small cartouches punctuate the composition, while dark outlines highlight the details and enhance the graphic effect of the decoration.
The dense floral scrolls and deep cobalt blue background are characteristic of Qajar ceramics, which draw on older ornamental patterns from the Safavid tradition while adopting a more vivid and graphic palette for large display pieces.
