Object description :

"Volkstedt Porcelain Salon Group “le Toilette”, Germany C. 1915, With Porcelain Lace"
A finely executed porcelain group produced by Aelteste Volkstedter Porzellanmanufaktur, Rudolstadt, Germany, around 1915. The composition is based on the 1774 engraving ‘Le Toilette’ by Sigmund Freudenberger.                                                                                                                                                                Seated gracefully in an armchair, a refined lady reads from a small book while her maid carefully tends to her hairstyle and makeup. Across from them, a gentleman caller waits in silence, his hat placed on his lap with gloves draped over it.                                                                                                                                      This elegant salon scene is richly hand-painted in polychrome enamels and soft gilding. The figures’ clothing features applied porcelain lace — a labor-intensive technique involving real lace dipped in porcelain slip and kiln-fired to preserve its openwork texture. This detail is especially associated with Volkstedt’s early 20th-century production and Dresden-style refinement.                                                                                                                                                           The base with Volkstedt crowned monogram, the factory's underglaze blue mark used c. 1915, confirming a production period. Condition: The standing lady's head has been restored; the ladies' hands, where they meet the lace, have been very professionally repainted, visible only under magnification; a small piece of the gentleman's cane is broken off; minor expected lace losses. The gilding and painting are well preserved. Dimensions: Height 22 cm, width 20 cm, depth 16 cm, weight: 1,282 grams Please study the accompanying photographs carefully as they form an integral part of this description. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance.
