Pair Of Two Khorjin Panels. Armenia. Caucasus. Circa 1870. 46 X 44 Cm (x2)
For enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and collectors of Caucasian textiles, these two Khorjin rugs from Armenia are true treasures. Their beauty, age, and the uniqueness of their patterns make them exceptionally rare pieces that are nearly impossible to find today.
In the center of each, a geometric composition is arranged around a vertical axis. The shapes unfold like stylized birds with wings spread wide, blending angular silhouettes and geometric motifs. The two rugs echo one another, each with its own nuances and details. Or perhaps, a Tree of Life (?)
The central field is framed by beautiful borders. The widest border, set against a red background, features a dense succession of stylized flowers, stars, and crosses in shades of ivory, blue, and yellow. The outer borders complete the ensemble with their repeated motifs and highlight the richness of the composition.
The knotted stitch is very short, almost flush. On the reverse side of the pieces, one can appreciate the meticulousness of the work. One of them has retained its small braided loops.
