"Hand-knotted Cashmere In Silk On Silk, 116 Cm X 185 Cm, Circa 1970, Srinagar Region, Kashmir"
Cashmere hand knotted in silk on silk in very good condition and with a respective size of 116 cm wide by 185 cm long.
The quality of these beautiful natural cashmere silks is well established.
One can only be in awe of the work and the abundance of patterns, stylized flowers and arabesques covering this rug and its borders.
Two hinds open the decor at the base, placed on each side of a large vase from which escapes a large bouquet placed above a fountain from which water flows.
This bouquet symbolizes the tree of life.
Trees, flowers, foliage where many birds nest.
The border consists of flowers and birds on an ivory background.
This carpet represents the vision of earthly paradise in the eyes of the knotters of this room.
Originally from Srinagar, "the emerald city" so named thanks to its greenery, but its name, Srinagar means "The blessed city of beauty and knowledge".
The colors of great softness, mainly soft coral and almond green, are associated with peach, midnight blue, beige and pink, creating contrasts while separating the patterns.
The thickness of this carpet is 5 mm, which makes it a flexible piece but whose ground resistance is stiffened by the density of knots of 720,000 per M2.
A slight wear gives it a beautiful patina that enthusiasts appreciate.
The Kashmiris knot these carpets (in Kashmiri: کٲشِرؠ ) They are an ethnolinguistic group originating from the region of the Kashmir valley, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, one of the most wonderful regions of India.
The region of Srinagar in Kashmir is where these wonders are produced and where they were produced, silk on silk or silk on cotton.
Srinagar, the Venice of India, its carpets decorated with gardens, such as the Shalimar Gardens, its papier-mâché, and its colorful culture. India and especially the Kashmir region is not a wool-producing country, hence the little use of this material.
Apart from the queen of wools the "Shatoosh", known all over the world and coming from an ibex in the mountains of Ladak.
The wool used in India comes almost mainly from imports.
The pieces from Kashmir are of irreproachable quality, knotted with first-rate materials as beautiful as in Iran and making them for many decades, an important competition.
This rug has been professionally cleaned and environmentally friendly.
