Central Asian Ewer, Height 49.5 Cm, Red Copper Engraved On All Sides, 19th Century

Important and elegant ewer in red copper formerly tinned, decorated on all sides with eight mandorlas engraved on the belly, tribal motifs, stylized flowers, tree of life.
Fine Greek placed on the neck below a bulge.
Three of these medallions are engraved with a beautiful ancient Arabic calligraphy which seems to be in the Mohaghagh style. This style is part of the "broken" styles (shekasteh) and was systematized by Ibn Moghleh. Some calligraphers consider the Mohaghagh style to be the father of Islamic calligraphy styles. Mohaghagh is the style closest to simple Kufic writing, where the shape of the letters is regular and thick, with regular gaps and without the different letters overlapping each other.
Our model comes from Central Asia and more certainly from the Tajik, Kazak or Kirgyz regions.
A bronze handle cast in Esse, beautiful engravings and a patina due over time, this magnificent object is highlighted.
The dominique-shaped stopper supports a pointed and smooth fretel.

This ewer or Aftafa jug was and is essentially used for ablutions, washing the face and hands, at the time of religious ceremonies and before the prayers of the Muslim cult.
