Large Haouz rug, hand-knotted by Berber women in the early 20th century in Morocco.
Made of soft wool, hand-knotted to a width of 158 cm and a length of 317 cm.
Add 15 cm for fringes in total.

Those who follow me know that I have great admiration for the traditional Berber craftsmanship in rug-making.
These women are the only ones who can make wool sing like this.
Morocco is full of woolen gems.
Here, there is a decorative artistry, a joyful weaving of patterns imbued with magic and hidden meaning, both in the field and in the borders.

The illiteracy and isolation of these Berber women were expressed in the very silence of the carpet-weaving process through an abstract tribal iconography deeply rooted in their collective consciousness since time immemorial.
These rugs tell the story of the women’s lives; each woman creates her own rug—or rugs—making each piece unique and singular. (Far removed from today’s commercial standards)
These women, trapped by their circumstances, express themselves through their creativity, drawing on their imagination to produce works of art worthy of the greatest museums of modern and contemporary art.

Admittedly, there is some slight wear, but it enhances the overall look and attests to its authenticity!

Our rug is in very good condition for its age and exhibits the characteristics described above.
