Helmet Of The Paris Republican Mounted Guard
A 1907-model cavalry helmet, used by the Paris Republican Mounted Guard. The helmet is made of polished nickel-plated metal; on the back, it bears issue markings as well as a marking indicating the size “57.” Attached to the front is a stamped brass plate, adorned with laurel motifs and the coat of arms of the City of Paris, surmounting the Cross of the Legion of Honor (an award bestowed upon the City of Paris in 1900). The chin strap consists of brass scales mounted on a leather lining. A crest, adorned with a Medusa head, supports a mane of black horsehair, complemented by a plume (or tuft) of red horsehair at the front. The set comes with a period feather plume (which, in its regulation configuration, should be entirely red). The interior is complete, including its original leather lining. A fine example, overall.
