Diptych reliquary containing sixteen relics, presented in a silver case with a hanging ring.
Description
Upon opening, the right panel reveals a delicate painted Virgin and Child, protected under glass and surrounded by a repoussé metal frame engraved with floral and geometric motifs.
The left panel contains a remarkable convent work composed of sixteen relics, arranged on a red textile background and surrounded by paper filigree and gilded ornaments.
Several authentic inscriptions are still legible, including:
Ex Praese. DN: relic from the Nativity of Our Lord;
Ex Velo B.M.V.: from the veil of the Blessed Virgin Mary;
S. Annae Matr.: Saint Anne, Mother of the Virgin;
S. Joseph. Spo.: Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Virgin;
S. Franc. Ass.: Saint Francis of Assisi;
S. Pauli Apost.: Saint Paul the Apostle;
S. Stanis. Kos.: Saint Stanislaus Kostka;
S. Clara V. Ass.: Saint Francis of Assisi. Saint Clare of Assisi,
Saint Anthony Patriarchate,
and other relics ...
The reliquary panel is preserved with its red wax seal and threads, visible on the reverse.
Condition:
Good overall condition considering its age; wear, oxidation, and minor deformations of the case consistent with use. Reliquary and seal preserved.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred work of art. The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
