The composition and decorative motifs of this Khorjin are remarkable.
All the artistry of ancient Persian weaving is brought together in this small, resplendent treasure.
Khorjins are pouches that were once used by the nomadic peoples of Persia. They are often double pouches. This object can therefore be considered a fragment—a single pouch.
The central field depicts a garden housing the fruit of paradise, the Boteh—a teardrop-shaped motif with a curved tip.
There are also ram’s horn motifs that evoke power and fertility.
The borders feature a series of stylized birds that protect the garden, creating an impenetrable protective barrier.
The woven closure system at the top is intact. The front is knotted with a short-pile velvet. The back is woven.
Be sure to admire the palette of exclusively plant-based dyes, particularly this wonderful, very rare khaki green visible on the back and in certain areas of the front.

We had the piece framed to display it in our gallery. Here, the piece is sold without its frame. It can be turned into a cushion—all you need is some stuffing, and the closure system is functional.
