On a burgundy field with a midnight blue border, there are numerous bouquets of pistachio and rose blossoms.
This primarily decorative rug depicts a prayer space, featuring a flowered mihrab accompanied by two tall twin columns with pendants at the base and vases at the top.
For the Kashan, as for the Kirman, a mihrab placed on a rug does not always signify prayer, but also a style of rug intended for home decoration.
Two mausoleum designs lend a sacred character to the piece, softened by the flowers and peacocks.
Between two peacocks, symbols of immortality, we see the cypress tree, Mainu Spentas, linked to the ancient Zoroastrian religion.
It is believed to be associated with the light of the god Ormuzd and with Zoroaster, upon his death, was transported to the highest mountain and there he transformed.
Other legends say that the tallest cypress in the world, the cypress of paradise, was planted by Zoroaster and Kashmar (Torchiz). The importance of each symbol on this type of carpet is easily understood.
This piece measures 128 cm wide by 203 cm long. It is in very good, even perfect, condition.
This piece was created around 1960. Kashan (Kachan, Keshan):
a large city in central Iran.
The same type of decoration, but with much more rigor and straight lines, is found in Kirman production.
During the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of carpet production, producing carpets of legendary splendor.
Finely woven carpets of great composition were knotted by the royal manufactory of Shah Abbas.
They became the centerpieces of museums and private collections.
The craft ceased. In Kashan, between the Afghan invasion (1722) and the end of the 19th century, carpet production revived. This revival began with carpets distinguished by the superior quality of the wool, giving them an exceptionally velvety appearance.
These carpets are called Kachan Motashemi, named after the most famous master weaver of the late 19th century.
The designs are varied and meticulously crafted: hunting scenes, figurative subjects inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a vegetal setting, and trees of life.
Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their tight knotting, and the beauty of their natural colors and designs, Kachan carpets became among the finest Persian carpets.
This carpet has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
