SABERS OF THE KING'S BODYGUARDS, Model 1816, Restored. 34417

Gilded brass guard, with four prongs forming a shell decorated with the arms of France beneath a royal crown, set against a background of a bundle of flags and branches of oak and laurel. Long-tailed pommel. Wooden hilt covered with silver-filigree-patterned shagreen. Blade marked with a “B” beneath a star—the hallmark of Inspector Borson (August 1814–September 1816) of the Klingenthal Manufactory—and likely the hallmark of Bick, First-Class Inspector (1815–1824), “B” under a star surrounded by a crown of rings.
Hollow-ground blade engraved with a trophy of arms, two fleurs-de-lis, and the inscription “GARDES DU CORPS DU ROI. ” on one side, and, on the other side, a trophy of arms, the coat of arms of France, and a radiant sun with a face. The back is engraved with “Manufacture Royale de Klingenthal January 1815.” It bears the hallmarks of Inspector Borson (August 1814–September 1816) of the Klingenthal Manufactory and of Bick, first-class inspector (1812–May 1815), “B” within a wreath of oak leaves.
Length 92.2 cm.
Steel scabbard with two steel loop fasteners and a brass ferrule at the scabbard’s entrance, cast with foliage motifs.

Good condition; the mount has lost its gilding; the shagreen and filigree on the hilt are in perfect condition; the blade is in near-new condition with very beautiful engravings and inscriptions; the scabbard is in good condition with a few dents; the screw on the scabbard ferrule has been replaced.
