CAVALRY OFFICER'S QUILL CASE: HUSSARS, MOUNTED CHASSEURS, GENERAL STAFF, First Empire. 33703(5519)

Black patent leather sash (width 5.9 cm) with chiseled and gilded brass fittings: on one side, an oval medallion (H 5.1 cm, width 4 cm) with a molded and chiseled border, the center decorated in relief with a finely chiseled lion’s head; a ring held in the lion’s mouth, to which are attached three curb chains ending in pins. Coat of arms (H 7.1 cm, width 5.8 cm) edged with a molded frame, featuring in its center a crowned imperial eagle holding Jupiter’s sparkling thunderbolt in its talons, the entire piece cast and finely chiseled. On the other side, an oval-shaped hook (H 7.8 cm, width 6.4 cm) decorated in relief with chiseled feathers, a bar (H 1 cm, width 6.1 cm), and a shield-shaped finial (H 3 cm, width 6.3 cm) that terminates the band and is decorated with chiseled feathers.
The band is terminated on each end by a brass hook to which a swivel ring is riveted.

Wooden cartridge pouch box covered in black shagreen with gilded brass sides (H 8 cm, width 15.5 cm, thickness 2.8 cm). Black patent leather flap (H 9.6 cm, width at bottom 16.5 cm, width at top 15 cm) with a double frame strip made of gilded brass: the outer strip is fully guilloché (width 5 mm), inner border smooth and polished with agate stone (width 4 mm). In its center is a crowned imperial eagle holding in its talons Jupiter’s spindle, sparkling in stamped and gilded brass (H 6.1 cm, width 6.4 cm).
