CADEAU RENÉ - CAPTAIN OF CUIRASSIERS, Restoration: Oil on canvas. 32203 Bust portrait of a captain of cuirassiers depicted wearing a cuirass of cuirassiers of the Royal Guard (brass glory with the arms of France and Navarre), wearing a knight's cross of the Legion of Honor and officer of the Military Order of Saint Louis. He holds under his left arm his cuirassier officer's helmet 1825 which has the particularity of having a headband of a cuirassier helmet of the Royal Guard model 1825. H 100 cm x 81 cm. Painting signed "René Cadeau". Gilded wood frame, H 120 cm x 101 cm. NOTE: This officer is most certainly a former officer of the cuirassiers of the Royal Guard whose cuirass he kept by modifying the shoulder pads and his helmet of which he changed the crest for the model of the line. BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST: CADEAU René, genre and portrait painter, born in Angers on February 15, 1782, died in Paris on October 28, 1858. Pupil of Pierre Guérin. He took part in the Salon between 1819 and 1849. Among his genre paintings are: "An Unhappy Family" - "The Little Sleeper".
