Hungarian-style Officer's Sword – First Half Of The 19th Century

An officer's saber strongly inspired by Hungarian designs, fitted with a curved blade from the Solingen factory.

The silver-plated mount consists of a crossguard with short quillons ending in leaf-shaped pommels, a guard chain, and a pommel carved in the shape of a lion’s head, with the chain held in the lion’s mouth.

The slightly arched ebony tang features a diamond-shaped inlay on each side, one silver and the other gold. It has a few old cracks, which have remained stable.

Curved blade with a hollow edge, blued and gilded over much of its length. Its decoration, engraved on both sides, combines trophies of arms, foliage, and ornamental motifs. The tip, left polished, is embellished with an engraved floral design. Signed “Solingen”

A particularly elegant officer’s sword, retaining much of its blue and gold decoration as well as its original scabbard.

Period: first half of the 19th century, probably around 1820–1840.

Origin: Continental Europe; blade from Solingen, likely assembled for the French market.

Condition: generally good condition. Signs of age, stabilized hairline cracks at the tang, and isolated areas of wear on the bluing and gilding.
