King's Bodyguard Saber Model 1814 1st Type
King’s Bodyguard sabre, 1814 model, 1st type. Handle covered in stingray skin with a watermark, in perfect condition. Gilded brass mountings, hallmarked. Four-bladed guard and shell adorned with the ‘Coat of Arms of France’. Lily-shaped crossguard, hallmarked. Long, mirror-polished curved blade with a flat back, marked ‘Manufre Rle de Klingenthal October 1814’ and engraved on both sides. (Head surrounded by a sun, a crown and the royal coat of arms with three fleurs-de-lis, featuring a trumpet, a shield and banners). Hallmarks of the first inspector: BIK and BORSON. On the other side: a fleur-de-lis and ‘GARDE DU CORPS DU ROI’, then again, another fleur-de-lis, a trumpet and two standards. On the blade’s edge: “MANFUFre Rle du KLIGENTHAL, October 1814.” Blade length: 940 mm Total length: 1090 mm With scabbard: 1120 mm Black leather scabbard with three cut-out brass fittings, decorated with line work and hallmarks, with two brass rings.
