The Pozzo di Borgo family is a family of nobility of extraction, originally from Corsica.

The family's presence is attested since at least the XVe century[1], in Corsica in the Ajaccio basin, first in the village of Monticchi then in the eponymous village of "Pozzo di Borgo", from which it takes its name. The village of Pozzo di Borgo was definitively ruined by the barbarians in 1574, and the family took refuge in the surrounding area, particularly inAlata, Ajaccio and Appietto.

From Genoese and Papal nobility, then French for some of its branches. It proves its filiation since the year 1629.

For Suzzone Pozzo di Borgo (noble-six in 1585 to the Republic of Genoa and colonel of the Pope's Corsican Guards) obtaining the privileges attached to the quality of gentleman by the Republic of Genoa for him and his descendants of both sexes. On October 3, 1619, a bull from Pope Paul V, confirming another bull dating from 1465, exempted him in perpetuity from payment of the Tithe.

After Genoa ceded Corsica to France in 1769,some members of the family requested to be recognized as French noblesby the Sovereign Council of Corsica. They were thusintegrated and maintained by decree on June 9 and September 5, 1774 as part of the subsisting families of the French nobility.

From the XVIth century, the Pozzo di Borgo family split into numerous branches establishedmainly in Corsican towns and villages, in particular Ajaccio, Alata, Appietto and Villanova, but also in Paris and on the shores of the Mediterranean.
