Award saber -Conquest of Mexico - Presented to Mexican General Juan RIVAS by Marechal BAZAINE
Highly worked gilt bronze guard, lion head pommel, stingray spindle with gilt filigree.
Inscription on the inside of the guard.
"Le Maréchal BAZAINE, Commandant en chef du corps expéditionnaire français au Mexique, au Général JUAN RIVAS pour son action décisive le 30 octobre1864 à Almeda."
Blued and engraved right blade gilded 1/2 on both sides with volutes, pelican in flight holding a snake in its beak, laurel wreath, bundles of flags, spear, breastplate, cannon and horn, then a warrior in the antique style, saber in the clear in the right hand brandished above his head.
Leather scabbard, brass or gilt bronze fittings, two bellières.
