19th Century Fencing Mask, Red Leather
It is a fencing mask dating from the 19th century. The shape of these masks is different from current masks, the front face having a central ridge.
Few of these masks have been preserved, and generally when one comes across one it is in a lamentable state.
The condition here is very acceptable. Of course the leather parts have dried and have cracks, but this gives the object the charm of old things.
The red leather could be improved in places with a few sewing stitches.
The part which is placed behind the head is made up of a steel bar ending in a circle, covered with leather.
Nice object which should delight a collector on the theme of fencing.
