Sword Of A Senior Officer Of Voltigeur / Grenadier Of The Imperial Guard.

Beautiful sword that generally resembles the swords of the officers of the Imperial Guard. Can be precisely attributed: it is the model of June 15, 1857 for the senior officers of the Grenadier regiments of the Imperial Guard (2 regiments, then 3 later) and for the senior officers of the Voltigeurs of the Imperial Guard (4 regiments) These regiments were engaged during the Crimean War, during the Italian campaign, where they suffered heavy losses, including among the officers, and finally during the Franco-Prussian War. BLADE: It is a blade of diamond section, with two edges which begin after a short ricasso. The blade is marked at the level of this ricasso on one side and on the other "Coulaux et Cie Klingenthal". On one side, control punch with B surmounted by a star. Blade length 76.3 cm, width near the guard 2 cm. The blade has a gray patina and shows some very minimal traces of oxidation, but not serious. MOUNTING: It is a richly chiseled gilt bronze mount, with the keyboard system bearing the imperial eagle, and a mobile counter keyboard, which can be folded down along the blade. The locking mechanism of the counter keyboard works. The keyboard decoration represents the crowned Imperial Eagle, resting on a lightning rod, with 6 flags in the background. The quality of the chiseling is fine. POMMEL: It is in an inverted cone and depicts an eagle with outstretched wings, holding laurel branches in its talons. FUSEE: It is made of black horn, with a gilded filigree. The two ferrules are made of chiseled gilt bronze. Good general condition, without scabbard. Total length 91 cm.
