Large Dagger Fabrica De Artilleria De Toledo 1851
Artist: Fabrica De Artilleria De Toledo
It is a "veil" dagger typical of the Spanish tradition. It was manufactured, like a number of luxury weapons, by the Toledo artillery factory in 1851. BLADE: This is the blade that the can be found on daggers from the 17th century. It is very richly decorated with etching.
On the exterior face, date 1851, representation of a quiver, then inscription "Arta Fca Toledo"
On the interior face, space for the thumb, decoration of trophy of weapons and floral motifs.
the blade has a complex profile, with ricasso, guilloché back, counter-edged...
It is indeed forged steel and not cast iron
Blade length 43 cm width at the level of the guard 4 cm , thickness at the level of the guard = approximately 5 mm
GUARD This is the traditional guard with straight quillons, and with a "sail" in thick steel presenting a rich etching decoration.
The pattern represents a weapon trophy and a coat of arms to be identified.
POMMEL It is spheroidal and small in size. The sail is fixed to the pommel by a screw.
GRIP : : In wood, covered with a copper filigree separated into 4 strips by steel bars which connect the two square iron ferrules to each other. SHEATH: It is entirely in steel, decorated on each side.
External face, a crowned eagle head looking "to the dexter" and fliral motifs. Internal face, trophy of arms and floral motifs.
Beautiful prestige weapon which testifies to the know-how of the Toledan gunsmiths of the Fabrica de Artilleria in the 19th century, who kept alive the traditions of the 16th and 17th centuries
