Covered Vase Long Eliza From The Vung Tau Wreck (c. 1690, Kangxi Period)
White-blue porcelain covered vase from the Vung Tau shipwreck, archaeologically dated to the late 17th century, at the time of the Kangxi emperor's reign.
The cargo of 50,000 porcelain pieces was recovered and 28,000 were auctioned by Christie's in Amsterdam in 1992.
This vase has been only partially cleaned on the outside and two oysters have been deliberately left in place on one side to testify to its historical underwater origin.
The motif of the slender female figure is known to Anglo-Saxon collectors under the sobriquet of "Long Eliza".
The glaze has remained quite shiny. The bottom is marked with the ribboned vase, one of the eight Buddhist symbols.
In very good condition.
Height: 21 cm. ; weight: 460 g.
