Porcelain Baby From The Shipwreck Of Ca Mau (yongzheng Period, C. 1725)
Baby figurine in white porcelain with underglaze cobalt blue (only the bib is painted).
In China, these statuettes were offered at weddings to wish the bride and groom numerous offspring. 174 of these figurines (including 24 damaged) were sold in Amsterdam in 2007 by Sotheby's.
This one has been lightly cleaned, but deliberately not stripped of its barnacle shells in order to testify to its underwater origin.
In very good condition, with no missing parts (particularly the fragile hands...)
