Dish From The Hoi An Shipwreck (15th Century)
Rare Vietnamese porcelain dish (porcelainous stoneware) from the shipwreck off the town of Hoi An.
The edges are scalloped and the characteristic bottom is tinted in a spiral of iron-red slip.
The cavetto shows a frieze of Yuan-style ruyi or linghzi heads, the central decoration a Chinese lion with its ball, amid clouds. The cover is still very shiny. In very good condition, apart from two very discreet small chips and a very small firing defect (photo 5).
Diameter: 24.5 cm, weight: 895 g.
