A Pair Of Mandarin Duck-shaped Lacquer Kōgō Incense Boxes
A charming pair of Japanese kōgō (incense boxes) in maki-e lacquer and gold, fashioned in the form of mandarin ducks. The interiors and bases are finished in nashiji lacquer.
The two ducks are exquisitely decorated with finely rendered plumage, achieved through delicate engraved details and rich gold decoration. Subtle raised elements lend depth and refinement to the composition, enhancing the naturalistic modelling of the birds. Both boxes are signed beneath the base.
