Pretty Little Arita Porcelain Dish, Fish-shaped, Imari Pattern, Japan, Late 19thc
Artist: Fours D'arita
A very pretty little porcelain dish. Set on a circular foot, it is in the shape of a fish, with the head, fins, and tail in blue and gold. The body is decorated on either side with two geometric patterns, each featuring a stylized medallion of a chrysanthemum garden in its center. On the back are stylized pine branches and a double blue circle beneath the base.
In very good overall condition, despite a tiny firing chip above the head and some minor losses to the gilding, clearly visible in my detailed photos. Please look at them carefully, I'm not hiding anything!
Japanese working, commonly called Imari, from the Arita kilns, late 19th century, Meiji period.
Dimensions: 22cm x 18cm x 4cm H.
