"Important Lacquer Box, Checker Board Decor, Hiramaki-e, Nashi-ji, Japan Edo-meiji 19th Century "
Very large box, probably for mail, rectangular in shape with rounded corners. The interior has a level with tray. It is entirely decorated in Hiramaki-e lacquer, on the outside with a checkerboard pattern, decorated with stylized medallions, involving birds, insects, plants and scenes of daily life. The interior is decorated with pointillism decoration in Nashi-ji gold lacquer.Condition: not perfect! Some small lacquer breaks, cracks, chips, and wear of the checkerboard pattern. Please look carefully at my detailed photos, I'm not hiding anything!
