A Blouse Dress In Glazed And Smocked Indigo Linen - England, Edwardian Period, Late 19th Century

Late 19th century,
England, Edwardian period

A captivating party blouse dress from the English countryside and British terroir. It's made of buckram, a glazed indigo-dyed linen with a loose, straight cut, long sleeves, two side flap pockets and a flapped collar trimmed with white opaline buttons. There's no front or back, as the seam construction is perfectly symmetrical, allowing you to turn the dress as you please! Skilful smocking of pleats on the bust and buttoned cuffs. The black silk thread embroidery features diamonds and stars. The inside pocket bottoms are in brown burlap (fabric repairs). This dress must have been carefully preserved, as it shows no signs of wear and the indigo linen buckram has retained its original luster and glaze. No flaws. Very good color and condition. Rare piece.

Dimensions: Equivalent size 40 France. Shoulders 64 cm, sleeves 51 cm, chest 102 cm, waist 101 cm, hips 136 cm, height 109 cm.
