Paisley Cashmere Shawl, Empire Or Regency Style - Scotland Circa 1800-1825
Circa 1800 - 1825
Paisley or Edinburgh - Scotland
Beautiful ivory wool and silk fashion shawl woven on a Tire handloom and dating from the Regency Period. This shawl is finely woven in wool and silk twill, with the wefts cut on the reverse side using the "Lancé Découpé" technique. The central reserve is cream twill, with silk weft and chiane. Scotland exported this type of shawl stole, directly inspired by antique fashion, throughout Europe. It is an almost identical replica of Indian shawls, with a row of eight Botehs at the ends and a gallery of palmettes. The side borders are sewn, as was common in Scottish Paisley shawls. The floral decoration on the botehs is inspired by the thousand flowers of India in the Mughal period, with an angular design known as baton rompu, the equivalent of what was done in France at the same period. Very fine, tapered bangs at both ends. Exceptionally, this shawl has no moth holes, but only a slight yellowish halo, difficult to see (see last photo). no holes, no stains. Good condition in terms of color and conservation, considering its age. To collect or wear.
Dimensions: 122 cm X 257 cm.
