Indian Patchwork Quilt - Provence Circa 1840-1850
Circa 1840-1850 Provence Beautiful Provencal quilt in patchwork of Indian fabrics between 1790 and 1840, the assembly of which dates from the end of the Romantic period. Commonly called "grandmother's garden", the seven-hexagon patterns form a flower highlighted by a row of hexagons in white cotton. On the border is a frieze printed on a red andrinople background, probably from the Steiner factory in Alsace, dating from the same period. The Indian fabric patterns are printed with mignonettes, seeds and miniature striped patterns including broken sticks. The running stitches of this very light quilt are only visible on the reverse side, entirely in white cotton (a few stains and dirt on the reverse side). Rare rust stains and micro halos to report, otherwise no holes or major defects. Very good condition of color and conservation. Dimensions: 191 cm x 160 cm
