A Large Gold Brocade Panel - Louis XIV Period Circa 1700

Exceptional two-layered panel sewn from a Brocart d'or, Lyon or Venice manufacture, and dating from the late Louis XIV period. Lampas brocaded edging with large almond-shaped architectural decoration charged with bunches of grapes. Large medallions of pomegranates and stylized acanthus leaves in a sublimated Orientalist composition. Rich red silk façonné lining from the same period, with gold braid applied around the edges (stains on lining). A few pulled threads and inconspicuous microstains, held together by the lining. Stable condition. Very rare piece, a masterpiece of textile art.
