Two Taffeta Valances With Empire/restoration Woven Silk Borders, Circa 1820
Circa 1830 for the assembly, circa 1810 for the borders. France. Two large crimson taffeta valances with red and silver-cream woven silk borders. A Lyon-based model of woven silk dating from the First Empire or the Restoration period. The decoration features large stylized leaves and architectural rosettes in a damask satin with a twill effect. Stiff red cotton lining. A few very slight wears to the borders. Otherwise clean and in very fine antique condition. €600 each or €1000 for both. Dimensions: Two valances, 80 cm at their widest point, 60 cm at their narrowest, by 257 cm for the larger one and 246 cm for the smaller one.
